The castle of Modave

The castle dates back to the 17th century and is build on a rocky peak. The estate is classified as a Major Heritage of Wallonia and currently owned by Vivaqua, a water distribution company.


Inside the castle, each of the twenty rooms can be visited and are richly decorated and furnished. You can admire the remarkable ceilings, stucco works by Jean-Christian Hansche, sculptures, paintings, Brussels tapestries, XVIIIth century as well as a faithful reproduction of the hydraulic wheel built in 1667 by Rennequin Sualem which served as model for the machine of Marly.


Build 60 meters above the valley of the Hoyoux, the castle has a exceptional view of the surrounding nature, a nature reserve of 450 hectares.
