Karakollen

Typically in Belgium are Karakollen. Karakollen or whelks are sea snails that are cooked in a broth with celery and chilli pepper. In Belgium, they are mostly served at special occasions like fairgrounds and big outdoor sport events. In Brussels you can find them in special carts on some the streets, especially on winter days.


Ideally, there should be enough chilli to make you weep when you drink the broth. It opens up the sinuses and it is perfect to cure a cold or to just to warm you up. A must try when you visit Belgium.
