The castle of Groot-Bijgaarden

The building of the castle began in the 12th century under the authority of Almaric Bigard, the first Lord of Bijgaarden.

The castle is surrounded by a moat, which is spanned by a bridge with 5 arches connected to the drawbridge. The central part of the gatehouse dates back to the 14th century. The four-story-high tower next to the gatehouse is 30 meters high and dates back to 1347. Garden architect Louis Fuchs designed the 14 ha park next to the castle in the early 20th century.

Today the 17th century Flemish Renaissance-style castle is a wonderful historical framework for business events. In good weather, you can enjoy the vast gardens. Each spring, the park showcases an international flower exhibition. The castle of Groot-Bijgaarden' is located just 7 km from Brussels, it is easy to reach and has large parking.
